Protective gloves and other personal protective equipment are subject to continuous quality control. The quality of this equipment and its classification into different protection classes are regulated by standards. The relevant standards are DIN EN ISO 374, DIN EN ISO 16523, DIN EN ISO 6529, F-739 as well as the Qumat®-Q401-EPC and the permeation cell NW50, which were developed in accordance with these standards.
The concentration of the chemical as a function of time is continuously recorded. As soon as the concentration exceeds a predefined value, this is called a breakthrough. From this point on, the PPE no longer protects the user from the chemical being tested. According to the standard, the breakthrough is defined with a permeation rate > 1 µg min-1 cm-2. The breakthrough is automatically detected by the Qumat®-Q401-EPC.

The Qumat®-Q401-EPC analyzer is used to test the chemical resistance of chemical protective gloves and clothing. An analyzer (FID or FPD) is used to measure the breakthrough of test chemicals. Measuring lines are available for three permeation measuring cells according to DIN EN 374, DIN EN 6529, EN 16523 or F-739. The Qumat®-Q401-EPC glove tester is available in two versions and differs only in its detector. The Qumat®-Q401-EPC can be supplied with FID or with FID and FPD.

LABC-Labortechnik has developed various products for permeation measurement in laboratories since 1988. Our offer includes products for measurements in the collection medium water as well as in the gas flow. As detectors we offer FPD, FID, PID electrodes, as well as pH electrodes, conductivity electrodes and redox electrodes.
The informative annex to standards 374 and 16523 lists permeation chemicals and the preferred analyzer. We have assigned our suitable test device to each test chemical according to the standard.

Qumat®-Q401-EPC and the PERMOBIL mobile permeation test stand test in gas flow with a detector. This means that the collection medium is a gas. Here you have the option of using air or nitrogen. The measurements in the gas flow are carried out in an open loop system.
Workplace with liquid collection medium
We have developed the Fluid-PermCell NW50-liquid for liquid collection media. The collection medium is predominantly deionized water. The permeation measurements take place in a closed loop system.

The Qumat®-Q401-EPC analyzer is used to measure the permeation rate of chemical protective gloves and clothing. The analyzer measures the breakthrough of test chemicals in three permeation measuring cells according to DIN EN 374, DIN EN 6529, EN 16523 or F-739. The Qumat®-Q401-EPC glove tester is available in two versions and differs only in its detector. The Qumat®-Q401-EPC can be supplied with FID or with FID and FPD. The overview of detectable chemicals provides information on which detector is suitable for your application.
Gloves are clamped into the permeation measuring cells, filled on one side with the liquid test substance to be examined and continuously flown through from the other side with a gaseous collection medium. These three defined gas streams are analyzed sequentially for the volatile detectable test substance. The results are documented in tabular form. In addition, the temperature and airflow are recorded for each measurement.
If a test substance with a permeation rate > 1 µg min-1 cm-2 passes through the test specimen, a breakdown according to DIN EN 374-3 and EN 16523-1 is present.

Permeation cell NW50
Permeation cell NW50
Designed for liquid or gaseous test chemicals and gaseous collection media. Permeation cell NW50 according to EN 16523-1 (replaces EN374-3) for testing PPE films such as protective gloves or protective clothing to measure the permeability of the test substances to the samples.
The permeation cell parts are held upright by a tripod without support. The PTFE holder for gloves < 0.5 mm is placed in between. Made by German glassblowers analogous to the standards.
