Qumat®-Q401-2025
Overview
The Qumat®-Q401-XXX is a high-precision measuring device for determining the permeation rate of chemical protective gloves and clothing. The new generation of the device combines proven technology with numerous functional enhancements and thus offers even more flexibility, efficiency and user-friendliness in everyday laboratory work.
In addition, thanks to the new sample holder, much thicker samples can now also be measured.
Normative scope of application
The Qumat can be used to perform standard-compliant permeation tests on protective clothing in accordance with the following standards:
- DIN EN ISO 374
- DIN EN ISO 16523
- DIN EN ISO 6529
- ASTM F-739
The Qumat automatically detects the breakthrough of test chemicals as soon as the permeation rate exceeds the limit value of 1 µg/min/cm².
For the first time, the Qumat also offers the option of recording the total amount of substance permeated over the measurement period (known as cumulative permeation). This function allows long-term measurements and provides an extended data basis for the evaluation of protective materials under realistic conditions.

Permeation measuring devices in the gas flow
Qumat®-Q401-2025 and the PERMOBIL mobile permeation test stand test in the gas flow with a detector. This means that the collection medium is a gas. Here you have the option of using air or nitrogen. The measurements in the gas flow are carried out in an open loop system.
Workplace with liquid collection medium
We have developed the Fluid-PermCell NW50-liquid for liquid collection media. The collection medium is predominantly deionized water. The permeation measurements take place in a closed loop system.
Which permeation meter measures what?
The informative appendix of the standards DIN EN ISO 374 and DIN EN ISO 16523 lists the relevant permeation chemicals and the preferred analyzers in each case. For each of these test chemicals, we have assigned the appropriate test device from our portfolio – standard-compliant and practice-oriented.

Qumat®-Q401-EPC
The Qumat®-Q401-2025 analyzer is used to test the chemical resistance of chemical protective gloves and protective clothing. The new generation of the device offers numerous functional enhancements, including four measuring cells for parallel testing, standalone operation without an external computer and an automated ignition routine. An analyzer (FID or FPD) is used to precisely measure the breakthrough of test chemicals. The measuring lines meet the requirements of the standards DIN EN ISO 374, DIN EN ISO 6529, DIN EN ISO 16523 and ASTM F-739.
The glove tester is available in two versions and differs in the detectors used: either with FID or with FID and FPD. The LABC permeation cells are mounted vertically and enable economical chemical consumption of approx. 10 ml per measurement. Gaseous test substances can also be measured with a separate attachment.
The Qumat®-Q401-2025 also offers new functions such as cumulative permeation, in which the total amount of substance passed through is recorded over the entire measurement period – ideal for long-term measurements and extended evaluations. The measurement data is available via Ethernet and can be integrated directly into existing networks. A user and admin mode ensures clear operating structures and increased security.
On request, individual work routines can be programmed to guide the user through the test process – for example by selecting the chemical, entering the glove type or confirming individual test steps. Our permeation products are used worldwide and are manufactured exclusively in Germany. Special designs are possible at any time.
LABC-Labortechnik has been developing high-quality solutions for permeation measurement in laboratories since 1988. Our portfolio includes devices for measurements in the collection medium water as well as in the gas flow. We offer FPD, FID, PID, pH, conductivity and redox electrodes as detectors.
Gloves are clamped into the permeation measuring cells, filled on one side with the liquid test substance to be examined and continuously flown through from the other side with a gaseous collection medium. These three defined gas streams are analyzed sequentially for the volatile detectable test substance. The results are documented in tabular form. In addition, the temperature and airflow are recorded for each measurement.
If a test substance with a permeation rate > 1 µg min-1 cm-2 passes through the test specimen, a breakdown according to DIN EN 374-3 and EN 16523-1 is present.

Permeation cell NW50
The Qumat®-Q401-2025 uses NW50 permeation cells equipped in accordance with EN 16523-1 (successor to EN 374-3), which were specially developed for testing PPE films such as protective gloves and protective clothing.
The cell sections are held upright by a tripod. Two sample holder systems are available for holding the samples: A PTFE holder for thin materials up to <0.5 mm, which is inserted between the upper glass part and the lower stainless steel part, and a newly developed specimen holder that extends the application possibilities and has been specially designed for demanding testing requirements.
