VMAX vials

Overview

VMAX vials for optimized residual emptying for vials larger than 32x12mm.
The special feature of VMAX vials is the cylindrical base. It is designed for the removal of liquids by means of a cannula with as little dead volume as possible. VMAX vials are designed to allow automated withdrawal.

In addition to the range of pre-produced VMAX shown here, the VMAX base can be machine formed from 1000 bottles to almost any bottle with a maximum diameter of 27mm and a length of 140mm.

VMAX - Description

The bottom makes the VMAX vial special. It is cylindrically shaped and can be moulded to any glass bottle, even retrofitted, and by machine using the patented process of GTG Glastechnik Gräfenroda.

Automated systems for taking samples usually dip into the vial with a cannula. The inlet of the cannula can be either lateral or at the bottom, and the head of the cannula can also vary. During automatic withdrawal, the cannula is always immersed to the same depth in the vial. For the most complete emptying possible and low dead volume, the cannula must be immersed as deeply as possible in the vial without touching the bottom!

A reproducibly thick bottom is therefore decisive for a low dead volume! Optimal emptying down to a residual volume of approx. ≤ 7µl is possible under optimal conditions.

VMAX vials can be used in a variety of ways. For example, the storage of valuable samples or medicines. For analyses of special samples or as a reaction vessel, for example in the bilimex range

VMAX - cylindrical foot

GTG Glastechnik Gräfenroda has mathematically proven the advantages of the conical bottom compared to a cylindrical bottom.

In a conical design, the dead volume forms a truncated cone with the side angle a.

The dead volume for the tapered version is
VKS = π * h/3 (3r2 + h2 tan2(a) + 2r * h* tan(a))

In the cylindrical version – as manufactured by Glastechnik Gräfenroda GmbH (GTG) – the dead volume forms a cylinder.

The dead volume for the cylindrical version type GTG is only:
VZyl = π * r2 * h

The following example for the dead volume up to the needle entry opening
r = 1.5 mm, h = 1.5 mm and a = 45° -> tan(a) = 1
VKS= 21.2 μl
VZyl = 10.6 μl

This means that the dead volume of the tapered version is larger by the proportion π * h/3 (h2 * tan2 (a) + 2rh * tan(a)).
At an angle a greater than 45°, the tan(a) > becomes 1 and grows all the more significantly.

The same result applies if the overlap of the needle opening with the sample is required.
The height h = height h (needle above floor) + ü (overlap of sample) then applies.

As an example, the following applies for the dead volume up to the overlap
r = 1.5 mm, h = h + ü = 1.5 mm + 2.0 mm = 3.5 mm and a = 45° -> tan(a) = 1
VKS= 108.1 μl
VZyl = 24.7 μl

VMAX - Standard range

The installation of the optimised residual emptying system is also possible in existing vials from 1,000 units upwards. possible without any problems.
