The advantage of a migration cell is that the one-sided contact can be readjusted without cutting edges or other effects. For testing mass transfers of packaging surfaces in food simulants, EN 1186-1 describes the migration cell type A as the standard migration cell. Comparative studies of the performance of type A, B, C, D, E, and F cells have shown that these cells have produced similar results and should be considered equivalent (1186-1-2002, 9.4). In the practice of migration testing, it has proven useful not to work with migration cells of a certain unit size, but to use cells of different sizes appropriate to the problem.
